Many a times
during our short holidays or vacations we do not have time for a full meal and
we are always looking for ‘something quick’. We are always on the lookout for
that small joint or shack where you can rest for a while and also your order is
done fast. Here are a few joints the more popular ones, however they may not be
conveniently located on your route and you’ll need to plan to visit these
joints or else you’ll need to find a street food joint (to be covered in
another post) which hopefully will be enroute. All of these joints are located
in North Goa, except one which at Colva in South Goa;

on the busy NH17 in Porvorim. Its very popular and people drop by regularly for
a quick meal. The menu is very simple, chicken, beef or vegetarian curry with a
serving of rice and salad. The food does taste great, no wonder its very
popular and the prices are reasonable as well. Besides popular Goan snacks they
also serve pork pies, roast beef sandwiches and other savouries.
Lily’s Flower
Lily’s Flower is
located in Caranzalem. This Flower is easily mistaken for a booze joint from
outside and you would wonder what’s the fuss about even when you get inside.
But when you try out their food you’ll change your mind. They have an
assortment of breakfast in the morning and snacks during the day. Give a try to
their delightful prawn rissoles, tuna roll, burgers and hot dogs and the ever
refreshing lime soda and water. The Lily’s Flower has sense of largesse, you
order a glass of milk shake and invariably they’ll top it up with another half
glass more.
Xavier Cafe
Xavier
Café is a small café in Mapusa market and is some sort of a landmark in the
market area. This café is very popular with the masses coming down to the
market for their daily or weekly shopping. So if you happen to be at the well
known Mapusa market you can take a break at the Xavier Café. They are known to
be popular in serving beef croquettes, prawn patties, vegetarian items and egg
chops. Do not be surprised if they have either offered more than ordered either
the quantity or additional items not ordered. You will be charged only for the
units consumed.
Felicidade
is located in the heart of market place in Mapusa. It’s a small bakery and
confectionery outlet and very popular for what they dish out. Most the items
are sold out even before the evening approaches. Beef cutlets, Croquettes and
chops, prawn and chicken sandwiches and burgers are known to be very popular
with this joint. They also sell decent cakes and pastries.
Menino Jesus is a
small eatery in Colva, South Goa. This small snack joint has very reasonable
rates for whatever they dish out, hence making it very popular with college
going youngsters. However considering their consistent tastes and good rates
this small snack joint is equally very popular with families. Besides the
variety of snacks they churn out their chicken cheese spring rolls, beef
samosas, beef chops and fish cutlets are very well known.
